Makeover Your Smile with Porcelain Veneers
Stained, chipped, crooked, oddly spaced, or misshapen teeth can make you less likely to share your smile with others. To improve your appearance and confidence, Dr. Gilbert Palmieri offers porcelain veneers at his Lancaster office. In addition to traditional veneers, he is also proud to offer LUMINEERS®, a type of minimal preparation veneer. Contact our office today to learn more about our veneer options and schedule your consultation.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Traditional porcelain veneers are custom-made, wafer-thin shells of tooth-colored ceramic. Porcelain veneers replicate the light-reflecting attributes of real teeth and can resist most stains. Veneers are bonded to the front surface of your teeth, and usually require two visits and the removal of a small amount of enamel before they are placed. LUMINEERS® are similar to traditional veneers, except they often do not require any tooth alternation prior to placement.
What Are the Benefits of Veneers?
Veneers have a number of benefits, including:
Appearance - Veneers can create an overall more attractive smile by covering stained and damaged teeth, and improving their symmetry.
Convenience - Veneers are cared for in the same manner as natural teeth. Brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits will help prolong the life of your veneers.
Comprehensive - With one simple cosmetic solution and just two office visits, you can enjoy a dazzling new smile.
Am I a Good Candidate for Veneers?
Most patients who want to quickly improve their smile are good candidates for veneers. Veneers may not be an option if your teeth are unhealthy or weak, or if you have gum disease or suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding). After these conditions are corrected, you may be considered a good candidate for treatment.
What is the Process for Placing Veneers?
Following your initial consultation, Dr. Palmieri can provide you with veneers in just two office visits. During your first visit, Dr. Palmieri will take photos of your teeth and fully document your case. He will prepare your teeth by removing about half a millimeter of enamel from each treated tooth. In the case of LUMINEERS®, this step will be omitted. Next, Dr. Palmieri will make impressions of your teeth, which will be sent to an dental lab, where a ceramist will handcraft your veneers. We can also create a diagnostic wax-up, so you can see what the veneers will look like before they are fabricated. Veneers usually take one to two weeks to create.
When you come in for your second visit, Dr. Palmieri will first ensure that the veneers are the correct shape and shade, and blend invisibly with your natural smile. To prepare your teeth, Dr. Palmieri will clean, polish, and etch each tooth. A special bonding agent will be applied to the veneer, which is then placed on your tooth. Once the veneer is properly positioned, Dr. Palmieri will apply a light to harden, or cure, the bonding material. Finally, he will evaluate your bite, and make any final adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit.
